Josephine who? Joséphine Baker born June 3, 1906 in Saint-Louis (Missouri) and died April 12, 1975 in Paris is an American singer, dancer, actress, magazine leader and naturalized French resistance fighter. She married a French of the Jewish faith, religion to which she then converted. During World War II it played an important role in resistance to the occupier. She will then use her great popularity in the fight against racism, and for the emancipation of blacks, in particular by supporting the Civil Rights Movement of Martin Luther King Jr.
